going over 300 on a wrx
Hi,
Can anyone out their tell me if they have gone over 300bhp on a bugeye wrx without altering the gearbox or bottom end, I,m at about 270 now but fancy taking it past 300 but am a bit worried about the strength of the engine...
thnx..scoob158.

Scoob158,
Yeah and there are plenty more out there well over 350bhp.
Mine (MY01 WRX) has 60k miles on the clock and has been over 300bhp for 40k of them.

Still running original engine, gearbox and clutch.
Will be competing at the Scooby Shootout to see how it fares.
Previous best 1/4 mile 12.85 secs (before last stage of mods)
Cheers

I like the way no one has talked about cost here.
2.5i bottom end + the work talked about is well over what, 6-7k!
I assume if some one buys a WRX in the first place its cause they cant afford the STI? So surely spending that much on an WRX tuning?.... wouldnt it make more sense to buy an STi and less on tuning?
Or am i way off? Sorry for going off topic i was just reading it, then checked scooby clinic at the costs!!

Not entirely true... sombody may well buy a WRX because most of the parts that the STi has above the WRX will be uprated anyway. I.e PPG gear kit, 2.5 litre engine, AP brakes, uprated diffs etc etc. No point in paying extra for STi stuff if it ends up in the garage

I run over 350 BHP and 325 torque on the standard MY02 WRX engine / drivetrain which isn't a whole shed load of money over buying an Sti and modding that !!!
.........the "real" money I have spent is on the other mods to make it *look* faster !! carbon bonnet, wheels, interior, spoiler
Midlife.....

There are a lot of quick cars fully detailed in Projects. I'll write up my 2.5 after it's been mapped next week, but first impressions are stonking
BTW, you should be able to get a new US 2.5 short motor for around £1,500. It bolts straight on.
Richard.
