Default No burble...Why

Hi people need some help

Have changed the exhaust on my 02 WRX including haywood and scott backbox down pipe and front decat pipe.
although this improved the sound of my scoob it still dont sound like i want it to. i want the windows rattling.

Sound output is mainly down to the backbox.

I have a full decat and my car only puts out 80.4 decibels (and the sound testers laugh at that at track days)because it still has a standard sti backbox on it.

I like mine quiet, just want the power.

Go for something like the afterburner vortex, manufactured by Haywood and Scott I believe...that should get you grinning!

It's available at Scoobyworld.

It's a newage, they're built better and don't rattle. Sound levels inside the car with the windows up will be small compared to outside. Try it with the windows down.

Question

You haven't changed the manifolds though? - the original uneven length headers are what gives the Scoob it's disinctive beat.

My missus rolls her eyes at me as though I'm mad whenever I hear one go by and get all excited about it - I think the kids are starting to recognise them too... LOL

I believe 'burble' is technically associated with V8 engine exhaust sounds - 'Chaddy' could tell you all about it

I have NEVER heard a scooby as loud as mine. Ive been to scooby meets and ive been all over. My scooby is friggin stupid. You hear it coming for a LONG way off.

Its a Firestorm back box with a full TSL set up and a triple 3 pack. Honestly its crazy. Where about do you live? If its local to Nottingham i would happily meet up with you.

Hmm i am down your week after next but not in the scooby.

What exactly are you running in terms of power?

I must admit that the back box made quiet alot of noise on its own, but after the triple 3, the CATS removed and the down pipe and other upgrades added it jumped into a league of its own.

The popping, spitting and burble.. It makes everyone stand and wonder WTF is going on.

Ive actually had some one ring me as i went past and said "I though the world was about to end, it sounded like you were ripping concrete of the floor"

The kakimoto exhaust is not loud. A friend of mine have that exhaust on his STI 04 and he is real jealous about my Scoobynet Vortex Afterburner. I haven´t fitted the whole system yet just the backbox. But already now it is much louder than the kakimoto exhaust. I can´t imagine how It will sound with the de-cat downpipe and centersection. Probably insane :-)

fill the backbox with some water and your backbox is much louder for say 30 minutes than it's al back to standard. Worked for me and gives you a big smile and once all the water is vaporized you can drive home without having nagging neigbours or misses

Also don't forget that every new backbox needs to get "burned in" and becomes a bit louder after a while

Hey mate, I've got a MY01 WRX and recently fitted an afterburner vortex with decat centre and replacement main centre section (i.e. without the resonater pipe).

It sounds amazing, with a loud burble at (and just above) tickover. Then from about 3-4k onwards it changes from a burble to a roar!!

When you come off the throttle it pops and bangs which I think is largely down to the straight through centre section.

In short, I reckon it would help if you changed the resonater pipe
