Thumbs down Help Heatshield ???????

My heatsheild has come loose and is rattling like mad. Every time i rev the engine it sounds like a bag of nails !!!! Its the shield which is closest to the oil filter that wraps around the manifold. Is it safe to take it off completely cause its broken off around the bolts or ave i just got to put up with it ?

Thanx Dave

The exhaust runs very close to the oil filter so I'd say its best to leave it where it is. You can sometimes use a washer on the underside to clamp it. (Worked with mine).

You could always wrap the headers with heat wrap instead, then do away with the heat-shield.

just out of interest, what MY car have you got and how do you know it's that heat shield.

just asking cos i have the same problem and it's driving me crackers! does yours get considerably worse if you go on a fairly long drive - to the point that there is no way that you can ignore the noise!

Its a my96 , the heatshield is in two parts and its the top half which corrodes at the bolts causing it to rattle. So i took the bottom half off , put a big jubilee around the top half of the shield and the manifold tighten it up then bolted bottom half back on. solid as a rock !

is this something that would still affect the stage 2 engine on a MY99?
