Running In.....With CAT or De-CAT ?
Just about to start running in a fully rebuilt engine. (MY 95 UK Turbo)
Up until the big end went, I was running a H&S de-cat downpipe, standard cat centre, H&S backbox.
Question is, would it be wise to do the running in with the standard cat downpipe back on, OR, with the H&S de-cat downpipe ?
Or doesn't it make any difference ?
Cheers

Downpipe or remap shouldn't have any effect during run in, since I assume you will be running it in gently with running in oil, so no boost to speak of.
Once fully run in, you may well want to have a remap - why did the big ends go in the first place?

Don't really know why it went (No.3 big end).......maybe just wear and tear.....120,000 miles ?
But I have a niggling thought in the back of my head, that the de-cat downpipe might not have helped matters. It was fitted about 2000 miles before the big end failure. Hence my worry about re-fitting the pipe.....don't want to kill a fresh engine.
Car is always run on optimax.
