help! 22/23 psi on sti 4 with no fuel cut?? poss standard ecu? (now with pics)
Right!! really bugging me know, bought an my98 STi 4 around xmas. Seller said it had an ECU remap, this is not possible on pre 99 cars right? so it either has aftermarket ECU or factory one, no other possibility?
It has a blitz sbc-id boost controller which the RR operator set to 16psi which gave me 295bhp. Now upon turning this boost controller up i am hitting 22/23 psi without any fuel cut or overboost protection. Now would the car be able to do this on a standard ECU? Someone said a fuel cut defender may be fitted, i cant see one, where should i be looking?
worth noting that if i turn boost controller to allow 100% boost then it peaks at 25psi and you do get the fuel cut at this level. however in low 20`s it seems to be ok.
have fitted a knocklink and have set boost controller so that it peaks 19.5 and holds 17.5, only get a couple of green lights at high rpm. Fitted my walbro pump today without changing boost controller and it was peaking at 20.5 psi.
Will these boost pressures tear my engine apart? can these handle 24/25 psi without taking cooling issues into account seeing as its freezing out there.
If i pull passenger carpet up and look at ECU what shall i be looking for to see if its non standard.
Please shed some light!!
Thanks.
heres a pic of the ECU is it standard??

i cant rember the bar to psi conversions of the top of my head but my 97 wrx can hit 1.44bar boost without fuel cutting if that helps
1.45 sees the fuel cut come into play
probably about the same kind of figures your seeing, and nobody has explained mine either (standerd ecu)

You'll need to take the lid off the ECU to see what's going on.
The '97/98 ECU needs an extra board to be re-mapped, and it's quite easy to spot.
Mark.
