From: West Sussex-Scoob stripped :( Hello Audi A6 4.2V8 Quattro :)
Unhappy Air leak or Idle control valve knackered????

When starting my car up it goes straight to 3000 revs, and stays there.
I've cleaned the air idle control valve and put it back on, also when I drive the car, the revs stay high aswell, the faster I go the higher the revs stay at.

Could I possibly have an air leak somewhere that is by passing the air idle valve so my revs are going up???
But then why when you start to drive the car, the idle valve should shut off, but the same problem is occuring when driving along,(sounds like I am over revving it like a learner driver...........embarrasing).

My car is a 1995 jap wrx........................
Do I have to buy a new valve from subaru(which I would like to avoid)
Or could this be something simpler, I will try to check my boost pipes tomorrow in daylight.
Cheers kevin

Wink My stupidity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tweenierob, you were spot on, the throttle butterfly was indeed being kept slightly open, why............................................... .............because while working on my air intake system, and taking the front mount pipe off, I put a baby wipe (yes baby wipe I have a three and a one year old) in the manifold to keep it protected,
And when I was putting the car back together, it was getting dark (the only excuse I have!!!) I forgot to take it out :O
Anyway with RB5108 help we finally found the culprit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So thats it the children are going!!!!!!!!!!!!

And yes Bryan the missus got a good thrashing for her comments
If you know what I mean
