Hi Guys/ Gals

Just need a bit of starter info on the above really as im considering the above for a classic

1. Any recommendations to do the work

read Dyney's thread in projects section as well.
I think he recommends allowing about £4-5k for it if you do the work predominantly yourself.
involving a garage could feasibly double that

API Engines fitted my 2.5, new headers, turbo etc. Nice job, good price Email David at dob@apiengines.com

You could probably do an exchange deal, but don't expect more than a couple of hundred quid tops. I'm keeping mine 'just in case'

Richard.

Just swapping the bottom end over, using same heads and if you have (all) other supporting mods - fuel pump & reg, turbo, headers, injectors, ecu, intercooler, hoses etc. what would it cost?

I would have thought just the cost of the 2.5, gaskets/oils and labour to fit?? Plus a remap. Say £1500 - £2000?
And if the mods were working before on a 2.0, ( at say 350 bhp/lbft ) then the new 2.5 should be over 400/400 ??

Or am I missing something....

Still not sure why the full USA 2.5 engine is not used with it's heads etc ... is it cost or are they poor engine/heads?

The price of the USDM short motor is quite good value for money at £1500 but if you want the long motor which comes with everything including ancillaries then the price gets multiplied by 4

2.5 litre short motor available if you want one

Cheers Conrad! Was thinking more of the group buy price / other price of about £1100 for the short engine, didn't realise the cost of the full motor - although only meant the block and heads/sensors! ( maybe not even sensors!! as that may mean a loom too! ).

I'll leave the short motor until I need one, but you can see my thinking above!

Thanks

Neil

The price of the short motors in USA is rising steadily as they realise why there's so many coming to the UK.

I think the days of a group buy at 1100-ish are gone.

David is right, when Subaru USA put up the price, one supplier stated this was a direct consquence of the numbers being bought and had been specifically instructed not to supply them outside the US. Now non-franchised dealers and 3rd parties are happy to continue to supply them because of the huge demand.

The current US dollar rate makes buying a US short engine a sensible choice as a direct replacement for a knackered UK/JDM. But as other people have warned, you must take into account the associated cost of the rebuild.
