Default Urgent Help Required

Car is an MY01 WRX running 350bhp

Just got the car back from a Subaru Dealership after diagnostic work for bad running.

The dealer diagnosed faulty Lambda Sensor and fitted

SEN AY -A/F RATIO Part No. U22641AA042
and
001553/ SENSOR-OXY EJ

Picked the car up and first time I 'booted it', check engine light came on and it made very little boost (maybe 0.3 bar) Normally runs at 1.3 bar.

SECS Unit has come up with error codes:
P1091 - Tumble Generated Valve System 1 (Valve Close)
P1093 - Tumble Generated Valve System 2 (Valve Close)

Can't get the car back to them till Monday.

Have they dislodged something or is it just a coincidence?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thats the bit between inlet manifold and heads, pretty sure ther is some connection there, have you checked its connect, ie any unplugged connectors.

Do not run the car Martin until resolved IMO.

tumble valves help on emissions.. they are a solenoid / stepper motor iirc... im sure these can be tested properly..

As steven says I wouldnt 'boot' it until its diagnosed.

Things certainly took a turn for the worse last night. Picked the car up and drove about 5 miles (off boost). Parked at the pizza shop and then tried to start it. Fired up and cut out straight away. Would start and run for a couple of seconds then cut out.

There seems to be some form of electrical problem, When the car is coughing and spluttering the needles on the dash keep returning to zero and the SECS Unit keeps switching on and off as the car cuts 'in and out'.

Also, with the ignition on, the fuel gauge reads empty (It isn't) and the temp guage is as high as it will go (even though the engine is cold).

Also, with the ignition off, there is a knocking noise from behind the passenger footwell.

Car back at the dealership. Thank god for the AA.

Mine (01 WRX) did a CEL TGVS sys 2 valve closed too. It was after an engine wash and I drove it to dealer with absolutely no power in the engine, approx. 125 miles. took of the stepper motor cover, very difficult due to minimum working space between this and turbo, and worked the axle which hold the valves. The axle then came loose and the fault code then could be cleared. Strangely a couple of days later the CEL went on again for the same reason but with no effect to the engine which was running fine with no power loss. I guess it stuck again but worked itself loose immediately and therefore no problems. Started and stopped the engine a couple of times which cleared the CEL.

Problem now solved.

Many thanks to all the advice especially Alyn from AS Performance and Bob Rawle who both rightly diagnosed an earthing problem. Pity the dealership didn't spot this one before fitting a new lambda sensor. Saying that, the lambda sensor error code was being shown on the SECS unit.

Never mind, nice to have the car back.

Mark,

From what I can gather, it was passenger side of the engine block.
