Valvolive VR1 Racing 5W-50 Oil
I have a 1997 WRX STI Type-R with about 55k miles on it.
I recently had a new radiator put in. I also asked my mechanic to change the oil too. About a week later i suffered what sounds like a possible big end failure. I asked mechanic what oil he used and it was Valvoline VR1 Racing 5W-50.
Has anyone used this oil or grade before and had problems?

Scooby Regular
I believe Scoobyclinic offer this as their cheaper option, so plenty will have used it. The big issue with oil changes is was it done right. The filter MUST be primed (prefilled right to the top, takes 2-3 top-ups) prior to fitting, and the engine should be turned over with reduced load by disconnecting the cam position sensor and/or removing the plugs for at least 20secs before running the car under normal engine loads. There is a common incidence of engines going pop within a couple of hundred miles of a service, and the above methods seem to prevent it.
