cranks
I remember reading sometime ago that subaru cranks are not ment to be reground, and if the engine suffers big end damage that a new crank is the only answer or replacement engine
could someone please shed some light on this for me
also is there anywhere else other than subaru that sells new cranks
cheers everyone.

The main issue with re-grinding cranks, is being able to clean them afterwards. The Subaru crank uses ball bearings to blank the oil way drillings, and it's nigh on impossible to clean behind them.
The only guaranteed way to do it, is to "spark erode" the bearings out, and then tap the holes for grub screws.
With the cost of this, and the hassle, you're just as well to start with a new crank.
I'll leave it to others to suggest alternative suppliers.
