Default Type R rear diff diferencies between mechanical (ver3-4) and suretrack (ver5-6)??

Found infos about standard differentials on kaaz differential pages.

Is there any sense upgrading standard typeR rear differential into kaaz plated diff?

If you look, the Type R is listed as "WRX - R" and has a mechanical limited slip rather than a Suretrac unit.

Unless you are doing competitive rallying, then I can't see there being any gain, and even then it would be quite slight I should think.

O.K. I see!
But then the question is still the same: diferencies between suretrack and mechanical type.

If I understand well:
ver 3-4 type R and type RA both has mechanical rear diff (R180)
ver 5-6 type RA has rear suretrack (R160????)
ver 5-6 type R has rear mechanical (R180)

All V3-6 STI Type R and RA's had the R180 Salisbury type cam/pawl type rear diffs unlike the std R160 rear diff used on all other Impreza Turbo's with either a Viscous diff or again std Salisbury type cam/pawl type diff.
Basically it has to have an R180 in a Classic if it's got twin piston rear calipers.

Dave,

The v3 sti R has an R160 AFAIK.

Not all the R180 diffs are plated, although none fitted to scoobs are viscous.

The plated (vs Suretrac type) diff is easily spotted with the diff rear cover off, v4 RA R180 is definitely a 1.5 or 2way plated unit.
