Many people!

What engine block do you have?

I had a stroker kit from Autosportif.

Personally I would use Mark @ Lateral Performance for a 2.2 Stroker.

Why 2.2 though?

For the money I would go with 2.5 block which can be had for circa £1200 complete short block....

Unless you want to beat the crap out of an engine, in which case I wouldn't choose a 2.5.

As popular opinion is swinging away from 2.5 USA short blocks, are 2.2's a bolt-in alternative, or is there a stack of machining to undertake?
Are the 2.5's only 'dismissed' because of people pushing for max power?

The 2.2's are 2 x the 2.5 cost (ish), but deliver what power/torque?

If you take the stock Sti v3 engine as a donor for the heads etc,add tube headers,TD20g,550cc etc and bolt it all together with a 2.2 and 2.5 running ApexiFC and Optimax, what are the relative bhp/lbft of both?

Can a stroker rev to 8000 Sti red line as the 2.5 can't (as supplied)?

Would be interested in people's views.

I would say for 400/400 the EJ257 is fine, or another way of looking at it, is for a nice road car with no piston slap or oil usage. Most people don't realistically want more so it is a good choice for many. Beyond that there are doubts.

The 2.2 or 2.3 is a bolt in job, same as 2.5.

If you use a closed deck block (most 2.2/2.3 do) and uprated rods and pistons then 550bhp and 500+ torque is on the cards with a GT series Garrett. The rpm limit on my 2.3 for example is 8500rpm but I keep it to 8000 as I'm using std Sti5 valve gear. The EJ257 is limited by std pistons/rods to somewhere between 7000 and 7500rpm depending on how brave you are

On the kit you list, ie 20G etc then the power capability is similar on the 2.2 and 2.5. The 2.5 may even be a benefit with regards to torque output at the same level of boost. As JB mentioned for 400/400 with instant throttle response the US EJ257 based 2.5 takes some beating

Andy, what determines your rev limit of 8500? (valve springs aside?)

HKS and Toda Racing do a 2.2 stroker kit.

The HKS one is frighteningly expensive, as i found out when i had one fitted last may. Over 3k for the pistons and crank alone.

Should last me a while though..........

A Jun 2.2 stroker kit arrives on my container from Japan today. Closed deck block, New pistons and rings, steel rods and I believe [ until I see it ] a steel crank.

£3250 plus VAT assembled short motor with sump and oil pump and seals. Heads extra. Much interest but no takers just yet.

Unless you are gunning for max bhp the 2.5 as John describes (400x400)must be the economical solution, and it will stay together it seems.
Only drawback is the rpm limit, but the torque will pull a higher ratio to compensate.

For the 2.2/2.3 there is the fully CDB. Are you sure the Crawford/JUN items arn't the same source?

For the cost of a 2.2 item, the Crawford 2.6 is there ready and landed in the UK?
Anyway, enough of plans for next Xmas, too busy on today's mods....

Thats what the Pauter steel rods and CP lightweight forged pistons have been tested at, on the 2.5 Sti crank.....apparently !?!?
I do know that Quirt has a lot of these engines buzzing away in the back of sand buggies, leaping up in the air and sitting on the rpm limiter lap after lap

I know of some of their engines erm.. not working as an engine should.. I dont have PM enabled and not really my place to say..

I'd Stick with an OEM Closed deck block personally.. or do what pavlo did.

This would as opposed to the more common 'glass' subaru cranks would it?

I take it you really meant to say a billet steel crank?

Sorry
