Default Head Gasket Blown

A friends Head Gasket has blown. Any ideas on the cost to replace?

Are there any garages around Newcastle upon Tyne that people recommend for work on Imprezas.

Thanks in advance

Dennis commons of longhorsely are a dealer I use and recommend, they will charge dealer prices but you will get an A1 job. Revolution beside the baltic centre may do it but you would have to make enquiries.

Not used ASperformance for any work but always hear good things about them and if their work is anything like their parts supply they will be one of the best.

Problem here is you can get a cheap job done, though it is essential to check the heads aren't warped & the block is straight to.

In one set of heads they were 11 thou out & on the block the cylinder walls were out by 6 though & the sides 1 thou....Had that been put back together, there would have been issues.

Plus its worth checking all the inlet/exhaust valves, high revving will see them getting bent....

Pity you are not in the West Midlands, as APIengines do all the flatness checking during the gasket change, did mine and they are solid as a rock.
AS Performance won't do you wrong either. Good bloke to deal with IMHO.

Taking the car to AS Performance this afternoon and leaving it there for a week or so, the guy on the phone seemed nice and genuine so will keep you lot informed of the outcome. Cheers

Bit late now but.... hostagewrx seeing as tho you are in Manchester why didn't you use ProSport in Stockport. They have been a Subaru specialist for many years (way longer than the 5 i've had mine) and are now officially recognised by Subaru too for servicing and warranty work.

Not saying you shouldn't use AS, i've had parts from Alyn and wouldn't hesitate to use them but they are so far away. ProSport are on your doorstep.

Scratch that question... just seen your post on 22B and see you're listed as Manchester/Newcastle. So you won't be that far from AS .

Wellw as driving up the motorway at about 70mph!!!!! and the heater went cold (1st sign) the engine temp went high (2nd sign) and then the engine temp went vertical (final sign) pulled in, turned off engine. Restarted and it wouldn't have it so called RAC

Sure enough water in oil, white emulsion etc so head gasket blown, which one or both i dont know, cylinder head cracked or warped i dont know!!!

Could be a big bill in the end, plus only just had a new clutch fitted and a coil pack fault sorted and a service, so far

Cost of car £4040
Service+coil £225
Clutch installed £246

And lets see this one!!!
