Knocking engine?????
Right i think i have just done my big ends in. The only thing that is funny is there is no knocking at idle only when you open the throttle approx 2000rpm+. I always thought you would hear big ends at idle.
Could this just be small ends or main?????
I took the oil out tonight there seems to look like it has a bronze/copper flake colour through it. Hard to describe really. I cut the oil filter in half and it seemed to have little pieces of metal it (Will be uploading pic soon).
Either way it looks like rebuild time.

quite common in the early stages to only hear the big-end noise approaching boost.............once they have gone properly then you'll easily hear at idle...........

Not good!
Im in the middle of a rebuild after i suffered big end failure, couldnt hear it on idle but when you blipped the throttle it was obvious. Might be worth dropping the sump first to prove it, my sump was full of copper swarf from the bearing that had gone. Luckily i caught it before it threw a rod through the block, noticed low oil pressure and high oil temp on my gauges.
Need to dicide how im going to rebuild it now! A lot of choice out there.

Tell me about it Russell. Everything seems to break in my hands .
Right i want to get to the bottom of why it happend. There was plenty oil and water in it.
The only things i can think of is det can that cause bearing failure??????
The oil was old and very black. It was due an oil change. It was being driven very hard at the time i noticed the knocking. Could the oil be at fault by losing its stickyness so to say?????
Loss of oil pressure not sure what could of caused that. everything was going good and was a very quiet running engine.

Sticking oil pump relief valve ? If the oil gets goooey or carbon deposits that could cause it, also old oil will not protect like new oil would. Maybe the car had an exceptionally hard (or easy) previous life ?
Was it std spec or modified ?
