Default Engine Overheat

I am having a problem with the engine overheating. When I am not driving the car, everything is fine, once I get on the highway and start pushing the enginge it starts to overhaet. I've replaced the thermostat, the mechanics have told me that it is the head gasket. Does anyone have any ideas?

My car is a 1998 Legacy GT 2.5

Thanks
