Is it legal? Well two categories really.....
1) Emmissions - your removing the centre cat, but presume you have OE downpipe. It may or may not be okay. You may need to replace centre cat for MOT
2) Noise levels - not sure what the legislation is on this but I would assume their is a noise level and would safely assume that a blitz would exceed that limit
But not many plods enforcing the legislation as they are usual busy eating donuts and giving out speeding tickets
Wouldn't worry too much....i don't

I have and was told it was too loud - it needs a Kite mark (apparently), was given a defect notification that needed to be signed by an MOT centre.
Went to MOT centre - noise is not part of an MOT test, so they signed it, and also said it ws only bikes that needed a kite mark on the exhaust.
This is in 2 years of ownership!
I have been past traffic cops, normal cops etc and not had a problem, just with this one jobsworth b1tch. I have a frien who is a WPC, and she said that the copper that pulled me is hated within the force!
Mind you, I never drive through town late at night, and am only lat home 1 or 2 times a week!
As the law stands I believe it is illegal to change an exhaust to make a different sound from the OEM, therefore making all aftermarket exhausts illegal.
My Nur SPec R is mated to a 3" system all the way through, so is somewhat more "boomy" than those fitted to the standard 2.5" sections

just found out that when I put the Equal length manifold on mine, it will make it even louder!!
UK300, i can't find any videos of mine at the moment, but imagine a chinook helicopter and speed up the sound, and you wouldn't be far off the noise!

not sure about that, when I went from a firestorm backbox and added el headers it was no where near as loud
Rich
powerstation headers on mine - never had a problem
when I had the firestorm on they made a horrible noice, like a resonance as you came on boost, swapped for a HKS hiper and they now sound ok (not as good as std headers but I don't care, Im happy with the extra touque
)

I can pull up outside someone house, and before I even get out of the car, they would have opened the front door. The neighbours will certainly love you. I suggest getting them ear plugs for Christmas LOL

That's what I thought too - though I'd have thought there's a bit of a grey area surrounding Japanese import cars which have been through SVA, the whole point of which is to approve cars which don't necessarily have 'e' marks all over them. How can a copper insist that a car has an 'e' marked exhaust if that car has been legally imported, SVA'd and registered without one?

There's some confusion here. Japanese import cars can and do pass (E)SVA with non-'E' marked exhausts, provided they pass noise and emissions tests as part of the SVA. That's really the whole point of having the SVA test at all if you think about it
So, having established that there's no requirement for the exhaust on an import to be 'e' marked, the question is, what restrictions (if any) are there, and how (if at all) are they enforced?
I've heard some pretty shocking tales about how roadside noise checks are done - sticking the mic straight up the pipe instead of holding it a couple of metres away at 45 degrees to the car (which is how I believe it's supposed to be done).
