Default Opinions on porting of heads

What would be the effect of getting the heads ported? would there be a significant improvement in performance and engine response?

In engine responsiveness, apparently, yes. In performance, I'd be surprised if you saw more than a few percent up. Port'n'polish is really something mostly done on naturally aspirated engines, where in a stage-3 development you can really see the difference. The roughness of intake and exhaust tracts really isnt anythig to bother with on a turbocharged vehicle IMHO. If your car is running 350+ lbf torque, you might see a difference in drive with port'n'polish, but to my knowledge it's so expensive (as its very labour intensive, aprox a week I'd guesstimate) that with the same money, more power gains are to be had elsewhere.
But don't rely on my oppinion alone, I've never driven one with a porting job done on it!

Theres more than a few % increase to be had, depending on what heads and cams you run! Cam timing also plays a part.

standard sti version 3 heads and cams, which are considered to be the most aggresive factory cams of all the STI's.

I have sti3 heads and cams.. (well I started with them.. but mine are a little wilder now)

Id not bother doing anything with them at the moment! - until you start chasing silly power figures.
