Clutch change MY96... help plz
Ok question for a guy I work with, he's got a series Mcrae and its needing a new clutch. He thinks the engine needs to come out to change but I said you can drop the box.
Any advice/tips for him. Whats the recommended clutch, the car is standard but has the original Prodrive 245bhp package fitted.
Also is there anywhere he can get a workshop type manual.
Thanks
John.

Thanks for the tips lads, is there anthing special I can pass on to him, I remember seeing something about taking the starter motor out before there was some kind of special trick, or is it just the same as any starter motor.
Thanks
John.

They key is to remove the pivot bar for the clutch arm.
Remove starter motor
Once thats removed you will see a bung with a 10mm (iirc) alen key head in the gearbox.
Remove this, and then screw an M6 (iirc) bolt into the pivot bar (which was hidden by the bung), and then pull the bar out.
Then lift the clutch arm up, and out of the release bearing.
IF you do not do the above, no amount of pulling or pushing will seperate the gearbox from the engine.

I would go with engine out unless you have some 2ft axle stands and a nice high jack.
You can have the engine out and at a convenient hieght to work on in as little as 2 hours. If you have had hte downpipe off recently that will probably remove a potential pain.
