What is safe max boost on a MY98 UK car??
Just fitted my Spec S boost controller and had a fiddle with it.
The car is a UK MY98 and was previously running a Dawes type MBC with approximately 17psi showing on a boost gauge (FCD fitted too of course)
I'll have an uprated fuel pump on very soon and the car is running full de-cat and K&N panel filter and Knocklink. I always run Optimax and occasionally use octane booster on top of that.
Now that my Spec S only shows boost pressure in bar, I wondered what was considered "safe". I've had a quick run out and have seen 1.25bar with only a slight flicker of the second green LED on the knocklink. Saw more than this with the MBC (could it have been spiking??)
Previous boost gauge showed about 17psi, so that's 1.17 bar, so assuming my gauge was right, I'm a bit over that now. The gauge was a cheapie, so I reckon the Spec S is probably more accurate.
Any advice much appreciated.
Marty

risky without knowing exactly whats happening with the fuelling and spark.
keep a very close eye on the knocklink if you must up the boost.
the safety fuel cut (at 1.15bar?) is there for good reason!
when you get the fuel pump, think about getting a regulator at the same time.
you can get a good deal at ASPerformance on the both as a package (pump and reg.)
