Pretty much as per the title, there is a whining noise, louder than the whistle of the turbo which only seems to happen in 2nd gear, it increases with the speed of the engine and seems to go once clutch pedal pressed any ideas what it could be, is it a worn bearing in the gearbox perhaps??

Also 1 other thing (sorry just remembered), took the car over 100mph (on my private track of course ) and started to get a high pitched buzzing/rattling noise from the gearstick which continued up to 120mph, disappered once speed dropped below 100mph though, any ideas??

The car is a MY94 WRX so a JDM, gear selection is generally OK although I have noticed it's a bit notchy going into 2nd from 1st sometimes and sometimes heads for 1st from 2nd rather than 3rd but maybe that's just me being crap at changing gear .

My my02 WRX had a second gear whine from new, it got a little louder by the time it had done 100,000. Its still going ok with the second owner. I woudn't worry unless it gets LOUD.

thanks for that, like you say it may stay like that for miles without causing any problems but I've decided to try and get the car down to Scoobyclinic to let them have a listen and see what they think. I get the impression it's very hard for anyone to make a judgement without actually hearing it first, hopefully it's not bad news, I'll let ya know.
