Default Dropping Engine

help! I need to drop the engine a few inches on my 95 WRX to helicoil a rocker box thread. It appears the leak I thought was the gasket was actually cos the bolt wasn't even tight as the thread has gone inside the head. Now I've heard that this is a very pricey job at a garage for obvious reasons.

Can somebody give me a step by step guide on dropping the engine ?

Thanks!

you can drop the entire gearbox and engine assembly by dropping the 2 subframes they sit on. You will need to drain the coolant, probably pull out the rad (easy), undo the engine loom from the multiplugs near the battery, along with some small pipes. You will also need to pull off the steering UJ from the column (bolt on column end needs to come right out). You should be able to keep the turbo, intercooler on, possibly some of the exhaust system too.

The other option is to raise the engine out. do a search on here as i am not writing it all out! You can helicoil the offending hole with the rocker cover still place too, as the cover has a large 10mm hole to seat the bolt seal in.

It's possible that by undoing the engine mounts and pitch stabiliser on top, you can just jack the engine over enough to get the helicoil tap in with a small tap wrench
