Hi All
My Dad has a Legacy 2.5ltr auto(1998), recently it has developed a vibration on pulling away when the car has just been started from cold, like clutch judder but the car is an auto
.
He's been around the car and checked all oil levels ,gearbox diffs ETC he's also checked wheel bearings and they all look fine. He has found that the front roll bar bushes are worn quite badly and has ordered replacements from a subaru dealer, hopefully replacing these will cure the problem but I have a horrible feeling it is something more serious,it seems to be worse in the back of the car so could be a rear axle/prop shaft problem.
Has anyone else got any ideas on the cause of this problem, any help would be greatly welcome. He is going to try to sell the car because he can no longer afford the fuel cost's
, but would like to fix this problem first.

Torque convertor ( or equivalent ) or maybe a diff unit? Not familiar with Legacy so can't help much.
Where is the judder felt - through steering wheel, gearknob or pedals, all through car??
Could be some bushes ( may as well upgrade to polyurethane ones if changing, such as powerflex !! ) allowing body and suspension to move independantly, or the engine / gearbox mountings are soft/worn or failed.
Pop into a local kwik fit and ask them for a free check perhaps, or a good local Subaru specialist or even a dealer, for an opinion. Free of course!

Found the problem mate, had a good look around the drive shafts this morning. The offside front is VERY worn, loads of movement in it so must be shot it.
Had a look in the hayne's and it seems a fairly easy job, if we can get hold of a new drive shaft that is!!! Our local car parts supplier does driveshafts upto 2.2ltr version but none for the 2.5 version???
