How good are you at mechanical stuff, and do you have good tools?

Not bad at mechanical stuff, my tools are ok.
What should I look out for when fitting the down pipe, is it a tight fit??

Hi mate hardest part was getting the lower heatshield off from around the turbo, the bolts were in awkward places wouldnt call it a hard job though u just need a bit of patience, your new downpipe will go on easier than the std one comes off as the lower heat shield wont fit,all u will have to do is cut the hole larger in the heatshield above the turbo(based on my/oo turbo) to accomodate the wide neck of the downpipe, i bought a hayward and scott downpipe and centre section for my my/oo couldnt believe the difference loads louder and nice turbo whistle, quicker turbo spool up,not had it on rollers yet as waiting to get their afterburner bk box, easy to fit to aswell as fitting tight to the floorpan as clearance is an issue for me mine bein lowered 40mm,have a look at these http://www.haywardandscott.co.uk/subaru/ http://www.scoobyworld.co.uk/trolleyed/8/22/index.htm

H&S for me E and ive had a few.Fitting yourself is very straightforward and as for the heatsheild, just bin it under bonnet temps dont get hot enough to warrant re fitting it and besides it wont rattle.I removed std downpipe and refitted H&S downpipe in 40 mins

But you may find that the clutch fluid gets a bit too hot though.IMO its best to modify the upper heatsheild to prevent any clutch probs and keep the dreaded heatsoak at bay a little longer when stationary-or you could just lag the turbo without the sheild,as it can reduce engine bay temps by as much as 40deg.

Forgot to say-ive got a Scoobysport(Janspeed) downpipe, great bit of kit

All the aftermarket pipes are virtually as good as each other, the only time when you would really notice any difference between them is when you are going for big power.

HKS stuff all the way for me, best flow (3" all the way to tail pipe) great noise, Made in Japan, heatshield requires no cutting and goes STRAIGHT back on. Cost "slightly more" than the H&S etc stuff but its really unsurpassed in build quality and very easy to fit.

I done mine myself on a set of drive up ramps and a good 14mm spanner, took 3 hours from start to finish inc removing and replacing the intercooler

Just fitted H&S downpipe and centre. Removed both cats. Totally transformed the way the car drives. Turbo spins faster, earlier with virtually no lag!!!!

H&S from Scoobyworld.
