THERE'S NO NEED TO SHOUT:

AFAIK, induction kits on a scoob are a no-no with the standard ecu, as they can lead to expensive MAF failure, which can lead to VERY expensive engine failure.

Can't remember why, exactly, some of the more technicals guys will expalin though.

You can fit one if you use a LINK ECU, though as it doesn't use the MAF.

Do they work? Depends what you mean by "work"...

You dont need one, unless as Al said, you want to remap the ECU to compensate for it and you have other breathing mods.

Induction kits can either damage the MAF (air flow sensor which governs fuelling on boost) through vibration through the cone, or produce a different air flow pattern causing the MAF to mis read. Either of these can lean out the mixture and eventually dmage the engine from detonation.

Standard airbox with a performance filter is the way forward.

They are also quite loud and make a nasty noise when you come off boost. If you must have one, the K&N is widely accepted as the safest one.

Get along to a meet and have a look / listen to one then decide. Im sure someone will be along to flame my views before long

Funny all new people ask the induction kit question straight away!

Thumbs up

No flames - agree DBM
They tend to suck crap into the MAF.
Stick with a good pannel filter.

Had the panel fiter up to 300bhp-found it to be quite restrictive at this point so changed to the induction kit

Noticed a big difference. UK97 so I think the MAF issues aren't as bad on these as on later classics.

Must agree, my 98 STI RA had an apexi induction kit when I got the car so I put the box back with a K&N panel filter on. All AFR readings were the same but there was a noticable drop in power so put the apexi back on.

I ve been told by quite a few tuners that they are a waste of time below 300bhp, your car has quite a strong maf but you will still need a remap

As usual Rich beats me to it on a Bugeye question..........Spot on

I run more than 300 BHP on my OEM induction kit with a K&N panel filter. and yes, the MAF needs re-scaling due to the increased flow of an induction kit if fitted.

01- airbox .....yes

pre 01 airbox.......not as good design. Bugeye has larger ram-air style cold air feed.

I have seen classics get over 300 on the OEM setup with a panel, but not much more than 300.
