Default Obtaining standard ECUs?

New to the Scooby world, not got mine yet but agreed a deal (99V classic).

This might be a silly question but can you buy new/used ECUs to have remapped, so you could swap back the original one in the event of any er difficulties?

I see PPP ecus for sale quite often but I've never seen a standard one, is there a reason for this?

In extremis could you buy a 2nd hand PPP ecu and have it remapped to your own spec?

Yes they go for about £85 these days.

You need AE800, AE801 or AE802.
