What gearbox would people recommend that will handle over 600ft/lb's? Since my subaru made over that today - thanks again to Dave Wild and Mark at Lateral Performance.

I am guessing I would need to use a dogbox again? I used to use one of these, but I did find it quite noisey - hence me changing it to an uprated syncro.

Do seq gearboxes exist at all? are they quieter? how much are they?

any details of any other gearboxes that can handle this type of torque?

i think i read somewhere that a skyline osgiken 6 speed seq was about £6500 rod bell is the uk importer of these. osgiken

what about a porsche box? stig runs a 550-600bhp ultima and he uses a porsche box. (supercharged chevvy so plenty of torque) porsche have a 4x4 turbo as well. i know he said the box was only rated to 350bhp but he had had no problems with it.

probably best off treating the G/box as a service item with that much on tap.

no did'nt mean to fit a skyline job, just ment that they make seq boxs for road(ish) cars and thought that they might do one for the scoob

I haven't the graph at hand yet, but if I recall correctly, 595bhp at 6300rpm.

I was thinking of the six-speed, but no-one is running this amount of torque (as far as I am aware) on one, and I don't want to be a guinee pig. So looks like I may have to go down the dogbox route again, if I cannot find anything else.

Dogbox ideally, think you will be breaking driveshafts on the 6 speed but as Jonny says, probably be a 'service item'.

Wouldnt you love to say that to a service manager?

I beleve the only seq box is the one for the WRC cars, so it most likely wont fit, will be noisy and cost in the region of £30K

I still want one though, just like I want a Mclaren F1

How much torque was/is the JUN impreza, I beleve they got some pretty impressive results from testing a 6spd.

According to other posts, that is pub talk and it will be destroyed with the kinda of torque mine will be producing. Which is a shame

Christian do yourself a favour, if your engine is really making 600ft/lbs which is even higher to what the actual peak torque of a Peugeot 307 WRC (running close to 4bar) just lower the boost ..... or turn your car into a RWD car and it will be easier and cheaper to find a gearbox that will handle that sort of torque, still be quiet and last at least a couple thousand miles .

The Rigoli setup is an automatic with a hi stall, tho i dont know any further details of the auto.

It is making over 600 carlos. I know I can turn down the boost, and to be honest I probably will do for every day. As this sort of power is going to be scary, and especially with a speed limit of only 40mph!! lol

However, when I do competitions in the channel islands, I want to use all its power! To be honest, I do not want to go for straight cut, but it sounds like I am going to have to...

If you need to reinforce the rest of the drivetrain to cope with the power, this lot are top not for shafts, cv's (rally spec, road spec, etc)

Christian, have you had your shell fully caged and seam welded yet? If you haven't the chassis flex is going to be terrible!

I remember Mark's car at TOTB 1 noticeably twisting about the n/s front corner when he accelerated, and back then that was with a little less torque...

If I remember correctly you can use "all the power" with a measly 450ft-lb, simply by making sure you are in the appropriate gear. Granted that's not easy all of the time, but you are not going to be able to put all the torque on the road in the first 2 gears, and struggle in 3rd, but you will most likely be at much higher RPM than your current torque peak to care.

I suggest you get a cheap 6 speed setup and try it. There is a world of difference between snapping an input shaft after serious abuse, and just breaking one due to the normal application of a lot of torque. If you find the standard 6 speed to be deficient, you will have hopefully saved enough money to get it rebuild with an uprated gearset.
