help! rattle from engine when reved
Hi Guy's
I think my big end baring has just let go on my 94 wrx, can someone confirm this.
When I was driving home my knocklink went crazy and I stoped and there was a rattle from my engine when I reved it up.
I checked the oil pressure when I got home and It was 1.4 bar!! I shouldnt have driven it home, Could I have damaged the cran?.
It let go when I was flat out in fith, dont usuall drive this fast, this is the first time Iv gone any more than 130. The car got to @ 7000 rpm in fith and the knocklink went mad. My car has done 130,000 miles, is it just age/wear or could there be a problem with lubrication at this rpm/load. Is there anything that could have contributed to the failure given that I was doing 7000 rpm in fith. Does the block have good enough oil flow at this rpm, oh and how much would it cost to put right, might change the pistons and rods at the same time, is there any thing that can be done to improve oil flow if it is a problem at high rpm.
Cheers
Mark

sounds like the bearings are shot. three things tend to kill them.
wrong fuel (imports)
high speed runs
not following oil change procedure correctly.
give David at API engines a call (during office hours) on 01926 614522 for an expert opinion and for a quote for repairs. they are based in warwickshire.
