Got an Sti8 and need a tad more noise.

Quite like the look of the Afterburner and Ninja. Any recommendations appreciated including how loud etc..

Also can changing the BB have any ill effect on the car if nothing else is changed?

I put an afterburner backbox on my MY98 UK turbo about 9 months ago. It is excellent, however over the past two weekends, I have added the aftreburner de-cat front and middle sections. It sound absolutely beautiful, however is noisy as f&ck. In hindsight, I wish I had gine for a ninja which is a good bit quieter. Thereagain, I did not intend in de-cating it in the first place - I just got the bug!
It is your choice but bear in mind what else you do. You say a 'tad' more noise; maybe best avoid the afterburner. Even with all parts fitted, car still runs sweet as a nut!!!

 

...i have had a Ninja and now have an Afterburner Vortex...both on full decats.
Both very good back boxes. The Vortex is much louder and deeper then the Ninja.
An Afterburner on a full decat must be one of the loudest around...people turn around to look dozens of yards ahead. The Ninja is somewhat more subtle in tone.
There is a guy running an Afterburner BB on a scoob in my home town who i believe has left the rest of his system in place. It's loud...but not as loud as mine.
Try and listen to a few first and ask the owner what they are running.

Changing just your bb will have no ill effect on your car.

My previous MY01 I decatted turbo back (Scooby Sport DP & Centres and TSL Grp N BB)and thought that sounded loud enough. But even after lots of advise that it would not cause any probs etc, it didnt feel like it ran well after a few months and then I had to have a new turbo(maybe just coincedence)

I do not intend to decat my STi8 but would just like it louder so maybe a ninja will suffice.
