Default Fitting a 6-Speed box to a classic.

I am about to part company with the gearbox in my MY00 UK car - 3rd gear started 'whining' a few months ago and has got progressively worse ever since. It now makes a high-pitched noise not dissimilar to when reversing
I guess it's not going to be long until it 'goes west'.

So, I'm looking at the options at the moment...

Either rebuild the UK box - and suffer the same fate at some point in the future.

Or, try to find a Sti5/6 secondhand box and diff. in good condition.

Or, fit a 6-speeder from a newer car
TBH, apart from the cost, this is the most appealing.

Before I part with my hard earned, I'd like to find out....

Will the 6speed fit to the classic engine?
Will I need the rear diff as well?
Will the original (uprated) clutch and flywheel from the classic fit?
Will the classic gear linkage fit?
Will I need to change the driveshafts and prop. over as well?
Are there any other issues when doing this?
I guess I'll need a box without DCCD...Which cars come without DCCD?

How much would I be looking to pay for all the parts to do this conversion?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

This lot has been very deeply discussed on these threads over the last 3 months. Do a search and all your questions will be delt with.

You really need to buy a kit of parts, all from the same car:
Box, rear diff, propshaft and gear lever linkage.
You can fit the bigger 240mm clutch too if those bits are available.

Suggest to talk to the right people to get a straight kit, ie David at www. apiengines.co.uk

The going rate is about £1600 for a non dccd JDM kit.(but the popularity could up this as time goes by)

I think API currently rate the "kits" at 1800£ for the JDM 6-speed.
