Default Problem!!!

Right ive been a Scooby owner for all of 4 hours now after buying a MY96 UK Turbo with PPP. Cars fantastic apart from when changing 1st up to 2nd gear it sometimes (faster changes) crunches into gear.

My mechanic tells me its probably the syncro (sp?) but will have to look at it again to tell me.

Anyone advise on this and how much im looking at to get fixed???

Cheers, Colin

Try replacing the gear oil with Castrol Syntrax,i was really suprised at how well it worked,as i had the same probs as yourself with my old MY98.
It is specially formulated for jap gearboxes and you can get it at Halfords.
Its well known as bloody good oil on this forum-try doing a search to see what great success its had on many a peoples boxes.

Hope this helps.

The garage I bought it from said it was probably the gearbox oil needing replaced....although im not convinced myself! I will get this done with the oil described above and see if it does any good!

WHEATIE I will look for your post...link would be great as ive looked, cant find...and starting to get pissed off with garage!!!

I had a crunchy gear problem which was sorted by a simple G box oil change

Probably 1/2 synchro unit will cost approx £114; strip & rebuild about £180; get the gear box out the car about £160 (and to put it back). May be worth getting the oil changed though I should imagine it would be the synchros......

Ouch

Well i'll do gearbox oil first and see what happens then if it needs done I'll just have to get it fixed........I just hope the garage have the decency to cough up for at least some of the above repair costs.

I had only owned the car 3hrs and drove 40 miles when I took it back to tell them of the problem!!!!!

Ok slight update, took the car out today and it seems to be fine until everything heats up - then I get 1st up to 2nd crunching problem! Does this make any sense to anyone???

Hopefully get an oil change in next couple of days and see if this helps it

Dont let the people on here tell you, your car is broke.LOL
Just replace the gearoil with good quality stuff(I use Silkolene syntran)
It improves the change no end...
