Default Gearbox level & grade

I just went and checked my gearbox oil level on MY04 WRX wagon and it's a bit low, now looking in the manual i'm not sure if you check it when it's warmed up or cold, also what grade of gearbox oil do they use from the factory so if i have to top it up i'll know what grade to use .

Thanks
Granby
