Default engine rebuild

Hi there - Big ends gone on my99 turbo and was wondering if anyone knows best place to go for the parts,
Will be rebuilding myself and possibly uprating a few areas in the process.
All help would be most appreciated.
Thanx in advance - Leon

try apidavid (he has a banner) and has a user on here (funnily enough APIDavid).

can probably supply you with the parts you need for a fee he and his team are well respected on here.

there are probably a few other dealers/specialists who can help you out.

why did the bearings go? faulty MAF? lack of oil? or something else? they don;t just go so you need to isolate the problem else it will happen again.

Cheers for your input jjones
I think it was an oil starvation problem caused by the main dealer mate.
Sent car in for the 67%k service in perfect nick and it came back with a leak on the front crank seal and a rattle from the big ends.
They obviously deny any wrong doin and tbh i cant be bothered with them.
Wont know more until engine is out but most of the experts on here know what to expect ie: API David etc.
i have already got engine gasket kit and new belts and have had a price of £150 for uprated big ends and £415 for crank etc.
I am also thinking of forged pistons, uprated conrods and bolts, rings etc.

Cheers - Leon

there seem to be a lot of cases of failure immediately (with 200 miles) after a service - coincidence? you decide. the probable cause is not bothering to prime the oil filter when refitting.

Nay luck mate - my my98 turbo kicked the bucket 50 miles after its 82,500 service at the Subaru dealers. I went to API and got a new engine. Best way to go mate. The dealer told me to **** off as well. Frustrating but I reckon in hindsight that my engine was probably on the way out. The cleaner and less sludgy oil can bring problems to light (so I learned) and as for the lack of pre-filling the oil filter, I am informed that the Subaru servicing manual makes no reference to this anyway. Albeit it is good practice to pr-fill. Once this happened to me, I learnt loads about this, I also spoke to a few people and was surprised to see how many dealers etc do not pre-fill the filter. Check out my old thread titled 'urgent help - is my engine goosed' from about a month and a half ago. Good luck mate

Sound advice, we all learn from the Snet!
Never use oil flush
Use Synthetic oil min 10/40
Always pre fill the filter (takes about 5 mins to really soak in)
Remove crank sensor connection and plugs
20 seconds of 'cranking' to prime/pressure the oil system
Check level
Replace plugs/sensor
Run the engine for 2 mins.
Check level and bring to 1/2 way low/high markers.

Run to hot, check level etc and enjoy trouble free Scooby.

What a game, just stick the oil in my old Porsche and run up to temp, check with engine hot and running(!) and blast away......

Oh, and API are really good.
