UK v JDM Engine Differences on Bugeye?
HELP !!
I have got a JDM WRX on a 51 plate which has a duff engine. I have sourced a complete replacement one which I can get with or without ancillaries but its from a UK car. I would therefore appreciate knowing if there are any differences between the two? (I assume so as they have different power outputs).
Electrical issues I guess I can get round (by swapping over the appropriate item) but not sure about mechanicals (turbo, cams etc). Also I am a bit worried about running it with a JDM ECU. Does anyone know if I will have any problems?
Thanks in advance.
Nick

Not sure but I have heard the JDM WRX has VVT,if it does you are going to need someone how knows how to connect to your wiring loom and what ecu you need,so may not be a simple engine swap, also consider future value of the car with the wrong engine in it.

Your best bet might be to repair your own engine with parts from the donor, depending on what the fault actually is. When my UK MY00 had a big-end failure earlier this year it nearly ended up with a JDM MY04 STI bottom end - apparently they're interchangeable.

JDM engines have much bigger ports on the head than Uk versions. It'll swap, but you'll be disappointed. Both types have VVT. Uk has a white metal bearing turbo, JDM has a roller bearing turbo.
The Sti bottom ends that come from various places, when left over after a 2.5 conversion, will do fine for the bottom, but you'll almost certainly have bent valves on the offending cylinder.
