Split Driveshaft Gaitor - How Urgent?
Just noticed my front o/s outer driveshaft gator is slightly split - spots of grease on the inside of alloy. I don't think it was split 4 weeks ago when I changed the front and rear tyres.
How urgent is it I get it done?
I go away this weekend - 400 mile return journey, should I get it done first or is it likely to last with no major trouble?

I have done it before on other cars, and would normally do it (though I remember the circlips being a *******), but not sure I have time before I go.
I know the bearings need grease, but it'll take a while for it to run completely dry w ont it?

The cv joint may not run out of grease but it will get worn much quicker without sufficient lubrication. The other problem being that dirt will get in and speed up the process.
Best to get it done ASAP coz it will probably start clicking sooner.

Last one of mine that got split (non-scooby) lasted until it rained lots. After that it lasted 5 minutes. It lasted from late Summer into winter though.
It may be possible to attempt a temporary repair with a stiff plastic bag and plastic cable ties. Depends how you are going to use the car.
