Half boost?

Half boost?
Car is a 99MY RB5, with Prodrive ECU and a de-cat downpipe. Done 90K+ miles. Always run on Optimax.
The problem - under full boost acceleration (1.2 Bar max.) the engine will suddenly revert to "limp home" mode and cut boost to 0.5 Bar. No engine check light.
Any ideas on how I can find out what is upsetting it?
Too hot?
Knock sensor?
MAF knackered again (replaced ~9 months ago)?
It took >10 miles of gentle cruise before normal service resumed.

Are you certain it's going into limp home mode? Do you have a boost gauge that shows the boost at 0.5bar at the time of the problem?
Does it do it in all gears, or just the higher ones? You sure it's not hitting fuel cut...?
Might be worth connecting the black connectors anyway, just to make sure there aren't any fault codes hiding. You could also do an ECU reset whilst you've got your head under the steering column...
