Re-building our Sti 3 engine for track use
Need some professional advice please.
Its looking like we have blown one of the head gaskets and maybe done other damage, We will find out in a couple of weeks.
If so we dont want to just get it repaired we want something that will take a lot of stick if you get my drift.
Im looking for suggestions on which components to use and then when we have the engine done we will be getting the car mapped with an ecu link or gems probably

I have just had my Stiv3 fitted with new head gaskets after some serious hill climbing...
API did the work and fitted studs to the block for the heads.
You want to go further, and if yo Wallis and Andy Forrest will respond. These people have done it all.
If you are to go to someone to get it done, try Roger Clark motorsport near Hinkley, not exactly far from you!
I think you will get some good advice from them. Going there myself this saturday.
The GEMS will get you a long way safely, but expensively!

My recommendation would be speak to mark @ lateral and get a set of rods and pistons.. put some studs on and put it back together..
its hard to say more until you know the extent of the damage.

you could also speak to kev @ clinic (01246-590807) about a rebuild,
i know hes got a few big builds on at the moment.

Thanks for the replies up to yet guys.
Im not looking for lots of power 300 bhp / 300lbs would be nice
but its important that the engine is strong and will last.

David at API or Mark at Lateral or Matt at Roger Clark will be able to sort you out with a decent set of pistons and rods, although not really required for 300/300 it will ensure that it will accept continued track thrash !
Std head bolts will be fine for way above your targets (jonh banks runs std bolts at 450 bhp)
A decent intercooler and an efficient turbo will be key to reliable track performance in my opinion.

Depends what damage you have done ? If it has ran hot when the head gasket went then throw the pistons to the land of far far away and buy new ones.
The Sti forgies are good though, better than some aftermarket 'upgrades' in my opinion, thats why I was specific in my recommended suppliers, to ensure you do actually get an upgrade !

Agree with Andy. If you're only looking for circa 300bhp/ftlbs, then the stock rods/STi forged pistons are up to the job, subject to inspection after the failure.
If all the parts are in good condition, then a light bore hone, and new rings, and new bearings, all correctly put together, would be fine.
