How do I adjust the handbrake?

They should be self adjusting mate.Unless you have accidentally driven with the handbrake on(and worn the shoes down) they should never need adjusting.
There are star adjusters accessible if you remove one wheel stud that you can manually reset.

The handbrake cables are made of elastic.
Pull the handbrake on 3 clicks, then pull off the surround.(the surround containing the mirror switches.)
It is held on with 4 door card type clips.
Disconnect the mirror switches, and throw shroud in passenger foot well.
Obtain 2 x 10mm spanners, crack off the locking nut and take up the slack with the remaining 10mm nut.
Check the handbrake is to you required tension, then lock off the locknut.
Obtain the shroud and re-plug the mirror switches, then bang it back into place.
This is the proceedure for a 51 plate bugeye WRX.
