Angry AAArrrghh! Snapped Header Tank Hose

Just been to have the turbo replaced, 2 miles down the road and there is smoke and steamm pouring out from under the bonnet. Pull over check the engine and find that the hose from the header tank to the turbo has snapped. The connector is still in the hose, and the break is clean up against the nodule on top of the tank. Could this have happened under normal driving conditions (I suspect not!!) or was it a mechanic accidentally leaning on this while working on the car??

It is just one thing after another at the moment!!

Has anyone got any bright ideas how to fix this, or is it a new header tank??

Cheers all, rant over!!!

I snapped mine yesterday while adjusting mbc. They`re extremely brittle. I barely touched mine and it snapped off, blowing red hot water up my sleeve, which was a nice added bonus just to p1ss me off that little bit more. Its very common apparently.
Unfortunately you will need a new tank. £55 + vat from grade A subaru. I wouldn`t risk a 2nd hand one.

the early plastic tanks do go brittle. Infact my old MY94 went like paper mashe.
as mentioned above, don't risk a 2nd hand one.

Mine was leaking around it's seal (plasic one) so I bought a nice shiney mirror polished ally one from Forge Motorsport. Have to say, top quality & perfect fit. Highly recommended.

managed to repair it by drilling out the nodule on top of the tank, inserting some copper piping and "gumming" it up (sorry if I am being too technical!!). Seems to be holding up until I get a new one. At least the new turbo has solved my boost problems!!! (every cloud and all that!!)

Thanks everyone (at least I didn't get covered in boiling antifreeze!!)

With a little bit of work you can fit a metal one off a pahse 2 engine rather than the plastic phase 1..

Try Grade A or Howard at www.hdcsubaru.com
