Question Exhaust phenomenon...

I've noticed it before but forgot to post about it -

My exhaust note changes as the car gets warmer. Starts of pretty meaty, but after about 15 miles of A-road action, the note gets much meatier

What's the theory behind it?

Hi Dan

Is it the genuine latest version scoobysport system? If so, I'll check it out with Graham Neale and let you know.

All the best

Oh ok

Sorry I can't comment on that then.

Sorry I can't help, hope you get to the bottom of it though.

I believe it is because the mechanical properties of the stainless steel change as it gets hotter and thus the resonant frequency of the exhaust changes, giving the exhaust a deeper sounding note. This can only be engineered out of the exhaust by modelling it in a finite element analysis program on the computer to find it's natural frequency and where the most displacement is when it is subject to the exicitation forces from the engine.

I hope this helps (not sure if the scooby engine changes note slightly either as it gets warmer)
