Default wrx question

How come all jap import wrx s are restriced to 112 mph , does anyone know why , secondly how do you de-restriced the car ,is it possible , ive posted the question a few times about the 112mph limit but never had no replys , i thought it was down to the ecu mainly but the ecu in my car is a z4 ,which ive read about on previous posts and they are supose to be a good ecu, so that rules the ecu out , its just frustrating not knowing how to remove the 112mph limiter , any help ,,,please

all cars in Japan are restricted - something to do with the Japanese road traffic act i gather.

nope its not an ecu restriction. when cars are sva`d some remove the restrictor - you can purchase a de-restrictor from a few specialists - do a web search

Yes it is an ECU restriction... there are 3 values in the ECU Memory Map that determine the Speed Limiter (Refering to MY92-96 ECU). This on all Jap cars is set to 112mph.

The de-restrictor that some importers fit is a mechanical/electrical device that then interupts the signal to the ECU.

UK cars are set to 315mph (a bit high IMHO).
The Prodrive map for Pre96 (which is based on a 1995 WRX) is set to 170mph.

hi mate all you need to do is get a mph converter freom svasoloutions.co.uk this goes on where the speedo cable goes into the gearbox.this will make your car run in mph and derestrict it. if your cars still limited at 112 mph its probably when it went for the sva test that someone just changed the clocks, check this mate. but all you need is the converter it costs around 78 pounds and ull be derestricted

What exactly do you mean by sva test , and someone changed the clocks ,?? . My car must have already been converted before i purchased it , its got 180 mph on the clock and when i get to 112 mph the engine just cuts out , , i think what you mean by that thing that goes on the bulkhead is a kmh to mph convertor ,am i right
