Default CV Joints

Should you be able to move the inner cv joints ?
I can feel the right hand side (drivers side) move when I push it up and down, plus it looks like something is leaking because its covered in dirt/oil.
The picture shows the left hand side which isn't that bad but the other side is completely black.

I've checked the boots for cuts/splits but can't see any and the gearbox dosn't appear to lose any fluid although the amount thats coming out probably wouldn't show.

Added a piccy of the right hand side now.

s@m,

There is end float in virtually most scoobs driveshafts, so don't worry. If they were knocking or ticking that would be a sign of wear, as for the oil it is not excessive, so again, don't worry, clean it off & see how long it takes to come back , If it was a split gaiter it would be a greasy brown residue

Ta Dean,

Thought there might be a bit of endfloat in it, but I've compared it to a mates MY02 today and his is solid compared to mine ( oooeer misses ) which is a MY99
I also neglected to mention the whining sound the transmission has started to make plus the metalic ringing noise you can hear from outside the car with window down at any speed over 25.

Erm this isn't sounding good is it

Mark.
