Heatshields around turbo, important?
How important are the heat shields around the turbo, specifically the flat one below the turbo and the cone type one that leads up to the bonnet vent?
Any problems driving without one or the other, or both?
Cheers

I binned the heatshield that surrounds the turbo months ago and never had a problem with it.I also drove my old wrx with no heat shield for 3 years without a problem and this included a lot of track days too

Wouldn't run without it, under bonnet temps are high enough and you risk boiling your fluids
Could you risk heading for a bend at speed wondering if your brake fluid is ok?
I say leave on there

And I've driven the same car for a further 2 years with no problems, so thats 5 years without shields and no probs.
I measure underbonnet temps and they never get high enough to boil your fluid

saw a prog on tv a few years ago it claimed brake and clutch fluid is the most likely to start a fire under your bonnet in an accident . it showed a demo of fluid on a hot exhaust and it went up. dont know if they have changed the spec much since i know i will keep my heat sheald on.
