Question DIY: Porting Headers

Was thinking of doing this over the weekend. Have done a search but still unsure of exact path. Presumably this is fairly straight forward due to lack of detail on 'how to's '

From what I can gather I need a dremel & tungsten carbide cutters. Available from hire shops? Any particular spec?

Thanks in advance.

Bob

Hi, think I used 13mm tungsten carbide cutter from R.S.Components, and a mates air driven die grinder. The cutters are only about £15.

might be worth searching for DIY porting headers threads
I think P20spd and Harvey both had threads regarding this, this time last year..

Or you can buy some from me, I have 2 sets available now. 1 set ported by me, one set by Andy.F

I also have a H&S solid up-pipe, and a Lateral Performance (Made by H&S) slip jointed cross pipe.

Pavlo, have you got any prices in mind for the above items?
Although I do quite fancy taking on the job myself.

Thumbs up I did mine yesterday.

Spooky!

Basically, I planne dit a couple of weeks ago.

I got a cutter from Ebay for £4.10 including postage and then hired a Die Grider from HSS for just under £20.00 for the day.

I matched all the ports and joins to within 2mm of their respective gasket inner face and it was amazing how out of line some of the original holes were.

It was very easy with the proper tool and the only real problem was that it was hot and my mask kept fogging up.

Now for the bad part - This will apply whatever the headers - HKS, Gruppe S or otherwise:

The gaskets,

From Subaru

Head-to-headersx2, Headers to upipex11, Uppipe to turbox1 and turbo to downpipex1 =

£45.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mor in gaskets than in other parts, but it wont leak
