Question Downpipe on MY03 WRX

Hi all,

Just wondering how hard it is to fit one of these ?
I have replaced all the other pipes back from this point without much trouble.

Anyone know if there are any tips/advice on fitting this one?
As it goes up into the engine bay & I'll be fitting it on a driveway with axle stands

Any help greatly apreciated!

Thanks,
Gutter

Hi mate, had a magnex downpipe fitted two weeks ago. i would not say its difficult, more fiddly to be exact. could be done with axle stands, but would be sore on the neck. firstly the intercooler has to be removed, secondly the heatshield which has around 10 or 12 fiddly bolts. the rest is probably self explanatory, however the heat shield has to be cut to fit over the new downpipe. i am by no means a mechanic, but think i could now do the job. but its a lot easier to take it to an expert. the full proecedure takes 3-4 hours.

As long as the nuts are not seized and they should not be on a MY03 it only takes 1.5 to 2 hours

Only advice I would give (after running into this exact problem ) is check BEFORE you go to the bother of removing the intercooler, Heat shield and downpipe bolts (at the turbo end) that you can actually loosen the bolt/stud underneath the car where the downpipe meets the CAT pipe. These had seized on my car and I had to get a mate to tow me to an F1 autocentre to get them removed - VERY annoying after taking everything else off with ease 1st.

Mark.
