Default question on DCCD

my type R arrived today. immediately i started playing with the diff settings - the reason I bought it.

is it usual for it to clank when you set the diff to free? I know when you dial diff in at low speeds it clanks but didnt think it would do this when set to free.

It depends under what conditions, driving in a straight line and releasing it wont. However if you have just preformed somesort of low speed turning manouver(sp?) then the centre diff will be 'wound up' a bit, so setting it to free will cause a jolt to be felt.
