Default Just had a VF34 and headers fitted, MAJOR lag.............

MY97, Full decat, K&N Induction kit, Walbro fuel pump and FSE reg, Greddy Profec e-01 boost controller.

I had a VF34 Turbo and some Tony-law equal length headers fitted today, and I'm experiencing really bad lag, the turbo doesn't give serious boost untill 4.5k, I know I was used to a quick-spooling TD04, but 4.5k????????? As far as I know the VF34 should be spooling around 200rpm later than the TD04, not 1.5k later.

I'm fitting a Hybrid FMIC, 550cc Injectors and an Apexi Power FC (being mapped by Andy F) next week, but the fact that it's so laggy is worrying

Might be worth bypassing the boost controller to eliminate that. The headers could be leaking - but you'd notice if it were leaking that much I guess?

I don't think they are leaking, after they fitted them they started the engine and checked for leaks.

I'll put my Dawes back on tomorrow and see what it boosts like.

It needs remapping, sounds a fairly typical type scenario. However when you fit a bigger turbo then, of course, it can end up with a slower spool and equal length as opposed to non equal length are notorious for slugging boost response. Are you still using the two port ? Do a test, in 4th 1800 rpm foot to the floor watch boost and rpm, at what rpm do you get 1 bar boost ?

This is VF34 on my97,Motec(M48),fmi,550cc,500hp pump,silicon intake,3",1 cat.
No boost controller(control via motec) No headers.
Car had (1st) conservative tune(rollers&road) and aiming to get another 15-20atw(kw) with more fine tuning

Clink on link, output is atw(kw),"M" line is boost Vs rpm.

OK, so hopefully it'll be better when the Power FC is fitted and mapped.

John: I'm running the boost controller in manual mode and upping the duty cycle just gives me more boost when it comes in, it's not making it spool any quicker.

I'll just have to wait untill the FC is fitted and mapped then.

I bought the headers second hand from someone at 22b.com, I paid £250 for them.

I'm using the 3-port soleniod that was included with the boost controller, however only 2 of the ports are used, as per the instructions.

I did the test, I get 1 bar boost at 3800rpm.

if andy is mapping the car next week i wouldnt worry about the lag as itll be gone as sooon as he maps it.

mine hag lag up to 4000rpm with a td05, then i added a custom tmic and the lag went up to over 4500rpm but as soon as andy had sorted the apexi out the car pulls like a train from 3000rpm

the lag on my turbo was down to the actuator being wrongly set but andy sorted it out

Actually I just realised it's the week after next, but as you say it should be OK once it's mapped. I'll just have to live with it untill then.

That is laggy for that turbo but, as mentiuoined, Andy should be able to "fix" that.

It's OK, Andy just PM'd me (from Fuerteventura) and confirmed it's still OK for the 20th.

Thanks again Andy, fair-play to you mate, my missus would kill me if I went on S/N whilst on holiday

you must of started him off as he just emailed me to confirm that the 29th was ok, must of been due to your post a couple up

you did have me thinking but as your post said he gave you available dates and the 29th wasnt available

hope your ready for a big shock on the 20th as the difference will be amazing, ive had tek3's done and its took me 2 weeks to admit a difference but after andy done the car it took me putting my foot down in 2nd gear to see the car was better
