Default UK MY03 IC spray system compared with US system

Anyone know if the US system, using the IC switch which initialises a timer to activate the spray is the same as the UK version?
I have tracked several threads which mention that UK cars are have an auto spray function - does this mean that the ECU determines the spray initialisation and duration using boost, revs or inlet temp?
I'v got hold of an IC switch and taken it apart. It doesn't hold the ON position when pressed & released and the only bulb is for illumination rather than to show the switch is on. Also, the tracks don't look big enough to hold 10/20 amps to keep the spray motor happy.
If the UK version is ECU controlled then what is this switch for if not linked to a timer?

The MY03 IC spray is not automatic. You have to manually press the button when required.
