uprated cambelt
Was looking into geting one of these direct from japan from either STI or Power Enterprises.
Nipped inot RB motorsport the other day and realised they were cheaper then buying direct.
Have a look here http://bbs.22b.com/cgi-bin/ultimateb...c;f=8;t=000720 for more info.
Not fitted yet but will be when my bigger turbo goes on

Just had mine done at a good Scooby dealer (Andrew Burt, Solihull)
Beforehand I check with knowledgeable types on the Snet, and was advised to fit a stock UK turbo type, as good ans anything else, inc Sti. I have an Sti v3 used in hard competition, 8200 rpm regularly, all's well!

not much use on a modified engine, with double valvesprings and uprated cams when it snaps though is it?
Waranty may cover the belt but not the rest of the engine..
See 22b thread for a respected engine builders thoughts.

If STI have gone to the trouble of designing and making their own belt, which amongst many others, Prodrive fit to all their rally cars (and not just big power WRC but, all grp N) then I reckon it's safe to say that this is not just some invented unneccessary technology that is bolted on because it's a nice colour. I talked to Rod/Cord about why a kevlar belt might be needed and what these men don't know about modded turbo engines is probably not worth knowing.
How many other tuners do you know of that have built a 750bhp 2.6 litre engine that has done 100,000 miles???????? If that isn't a testimony to their quality of work and knowledge then what is?

my Sti is a stock engine, no mods except decat.= 314 bhp.
I take your points, all the loads added using cams and springs demands the precaution of the Kevlar belt and every thing else which goes with it.
It was a rally man, rallying his StiRA who steered me this way.
Are we saying here that the stock Subaru belt will fail on an Sti engine (in this tune)?
Is the Sti belt very different to the Subaru belt?
Will the failure of the tensioner = disaster for any of the belts?
I'm happy as I am , just value the opinion of others. Anyone know of a Subaru belt failing on an STi engine(classic Sti)?

I'm not saying it will fail, i was using a std subaru belt, but whilst playing with cam timing I will be changing to a kevlar belt.
I would have been changing the std belt more often though..

Glad you said that David, as one of the experts on the Snet it re assures me!
The car does 2000 mls a year and 10 hillclimb events, it is the short blasts to 8000 rpm that worry between bends.
Take your point about regular changes though.

What type is the STi cam belt then? When mine was changed last year I was offered Std one, or STi for about £15 more ... STi one was said to be kevlar construction.
Had no problems anyway since!
