Question Is the RA trans as quick as the STi trans?

I have fitted an RA trans, (1995) with 4.11 diffs to my 1997 Sti (which had 4.44 diff and stock ratios).

I hillclimb the car seriously, and have just got back from a weekend's hillclimbing (even came 2nd in class!).

The question is, the car is not quicker to cover the hill climb with the RA box.

Has anyone else found that the 'benefit' of the RA gearing is not giving any advantage?

The Sti box also feels faster to change gear, I think the early RA's synchro is slower than the Sti double syncho design?

What do you all think? Or is it just me not screwing the best out of the 'new' set-up?

As you know I've always liked the RA gearing, to keep the power in the sweet spot, but it does mean (a lot) more changes!

As you saw today at Prescott, it all seems the same as my STi box!
Drove home 'hard' and tried using the short ratios and not revving the t*ts off the motor, ie changing at 6500 and not 7500/8000, did seem better. Will try harder at Loton. You were always up and down your box!
Glad you have a contact for Rally Colin now.
