Default Power FC for UK MY98

The car: UK MY98 turbo AWD2000, running the following
engine spec:

TD04L turbo
Titanium exhaust centre and backbox
K&N Induction
Blitz Dual SBC
HKS Sequential blow off valve
Defi's
Knocklink
Denso Iridium plugs

stock clutch/flywheel/gearbox

The plan:

TD05H to be converted by Andy F, and fit it at the same time as
TSL Single dump decat pipe

480cc injectors
Walboro fuel pump/FSE regulator

Apexi Power FC - to be mapped, possibly by Andy F, the only
drawback being having to drive up from Birmingham to Edinburgh
on non-mapped Power FC

Questions:

1. Andy F briefly told me over the phone that to fit a Power FC to a
UK car, I need to change some sensors: icluding cam shaft position
and crank shaft position sensors. Could someone tell me where they
are, what I should replace them with, and how?In addition, what else
do I need to do to fit it. Power FC is the 3 plug one to fit MY98.

2. is there any reputable Power FC mapper for Imprezas in the
Midlands area, or closer to Birmingham than Edinburgh? Just worried
about the car breaking down on the way up there.

3. I have also located a set of sti pistons for a good price, but don't know
if there is any point in touching the internals at this stage.

Thanks in advance.

just realised I can't edit my post anymore!

Anyway, I forgot to mention that my car has a key on the dash, which indicates the need for the key, ECU and immobiliser ECU to match each other. If I change the ECU, I'm assuming that you can by-pass the immobiliser ECU. If that's the case, will I be able to cut a spare key without paying a fortune to Subaru? Can someone confirm?

Hi Keigo, I sent you a PM yesterday regards your initial questions.
WRT the immobiliser, I recently fitted a PFC to a 97UK car and we had to take a new supply for the fuel pump in order to get it running. The Immobiliser ECU would not speak with the Apexi, althought it still retained the ignition cut so it is still functional to a degree'

Below the alternator and next to the oil fill up funnel are where the 2 sensors are, they are both light brown in colour.
2 wires going to each sensor, one light brown, one white, both wires need to be swapped over, but you cant swap the plugs over, they are both different.

2. is there any reputable Power FC mapper for Imprezas in the

Not sure, but travelling to Andy is well worth it.

Your engine should be fine at this stage.
Just make sure you have all the safety messures in place?
Use Optimax and octane booster (optional), Mobil 1 or Castrol RS oil, a boost gauge, make sure your gearbox oil is topped up, possibly overfill it slightly, (would recommend Castrol Syntrax gearbox oil)
If you dont have Mobil 1 or Castrol RS already, I would do an oil and filter change, check the alternator belt and when the last timing belt change was done?

You can run a seperate power feed from the ECU to the fuel pump to overcome the imobiliser, I can check which wires to use.

I have a Power FC for my MY97 on the way from japan as we speak, which I'll be getting mapped by Andy F. I knew about the position sensors, but I didn't know about the fuel pump issue. Andy could you PM me the info please? Thanks mate.

I also have the same problem (driving up from Bristol unmapped). Having spoken to Andy via pm's he said if we can get 4 people wanting him to map Power FC's he may be able to come down and do the mapping in a more central part of the country, for an extra £20 or so. Sounds like a great plan.

DreXel - Excellent, I'm up for that, but only in a few month's time, though. My PFC and other parts are coming from Japan for mid May, and have to get my turbo converted by Andy before the remap. Could you wait till late May or early June for yours?

Well I'm still waiting for parts myself and I still have to fit everything. I was aiming for early-to-mid may TBH, but I'll see how it goes.

That's fine. TBH, getting 4 people for remap, in order to get Andy to come down this way will probably take a little time anyway, so like you say, let's see how it goes.

Hi all, I have a power FC and uk MY97 now I have done the cam/crank sensor swap at the ECU( there is only 1 ground pin shared between the 2) end and moved the fuel pump connection. It fires up ok idles ok but undrivable it drives ok then misfires badly. On my mates identical car it drives fine, I have swapped out the following between our cars maf, map, coils, crank sensor all to no avail......anybody anyideas ? No amount of mapping seems to be able to cure it the Wideband reports the car leaning out during the misfire I don't know if that is the cause of the misfire or the result of it. It also stalls when you pull up etc.....it sounds like a cam/crank problem how much are a new set ?

What fuel are you using? Apexi is mapped to RON100 to start off with, so it would det if only using Optimax. Try adding Octain booster, until you can have it mapped properly. That's my plan when I get mine.

Hi
How many people do you have for the mapping session. I need to order a PFC and would want it mapped by Andy. I'm near Bedford.

Early/mid May would suit me fine.

Catalunya, if you have used a seperate feed for the pump, i.e. ran your own wire from the ecu to feed the pump, it could be the type of wire you used.

Houghton, we need at least 4. End May would suit me better.

Scoty - can you share with us on how to take a separate feed for the fuel pump? The method and the type of wire I should use.

Keigo, its not overly detting but the car is suddenly hitting misfires everywhere where it goes super lean, mapping is not a problem I can do that myself but no amount of mapping cures this problem its not a problem with the map.

Scoty, Im not running a direct feed to my fuel pump, its SEEMS to work ok just moving the fuel pump relay wire to where its supposed to be on the JAP ECU. IT drives fine on my mates car that is the puzzeling thing.

Catalunya - good to hear that you are sorted. Can you tell us what the problem was?

Houghton - that's cool mate. Let's hope there will be 2 more in need for mapping by Andy

B136- Pin 8 to 10 & 10 to 8

B137- Pin 7 to 17 & 17 to 7

the car start on, but down in a second...which can be the problem?, bad FUEL?

Is this "Group Buy on Andy F Mapping " in a more central England area still going?

Looking at getting a PowerFC off Andy F and mapped, and if it's being done in Aug / Sept, and nearer to Manchester / Liverpool area then I would be happy to join in this.

Getting one myself off Greenline could save me around £100 but prefer the more local warranty ex Andy F.

WRX Wagon MY94 here, so no need to swap wires I guess.

Neil
